On the evening of May 15, 1988, the central headquarters of Komala, located in the “Boteh” Valley, 20 kilometers north of the city of Ranya in Iraqi Kurdistan, was targeted in a chemical bombardment by warplanes of the criminal Iraqi Ba’ath regime. In this criminal attack, 23 members and cadres of the Communist Party of Iran and Komala lost their lives, and nearly 150 others were injured and poisoned. These comrades were among the most capable and militant pioneers of Iran’s labor and communist movement and were well-known, veteran, and beloved figures among the masses of the people. They rose up against oppression, exploitation, and the deprivation of the working and toiling masses, against war and the crimes resulting from it, and in defense of the basic rights of the people of Kurdistan, dedicating their entire lives to the relentless struggle against the capitalist system and all of its sufferings and injustices.

These beloved fallen comrades were among those noble human beings who, with revolutionary passion and hearts full of hope, came from different parts of Kurdistan and other cities of Iran and joined the ranks of Komala. Side by side and shoulder to shoulder, enduring many dangers, they worked in the central organs of Komala as well as in the radio station Voice of the Communist Party of Iran.

This was not the first time that the bases of Komala’s Peshmerga forces in Iraqi Kurdistan had been targeted by Iraqi army airstrikes or artillery attacks. Prior to this, the central headquarters of Komala in the “Maloumeh” region and in the same “Boteh” Valley had repeatedly come under attack. These areas were among the regions outside the control of the Iraqi government, where the Peshmerga forces of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan and other political parties and forces opposed to the Iraqi regime were present. By putting pressure on Komala in these regions, the Iraqi regime sought to force us to move the locations of our armed forces from liberated areas to areas under the control of its army and to sever the connections between the Peshmerga forces of Iranian and Iraqi Kurdistan. At that time, the assessment of Komala’s leadership was that as long as a liberated area remained in Iraqi Kurdistan, its central headquarters should not be transferred to areas under the control of the Iraqi government. This was a political position that served the cause of resistance against both the Islamic Republic and the Iraqi Ba’ath regime. This policy was also a continuation of the policy of Komala and the Communist Party of Iran regarding the Iran-Iraq war; a policy that regarded the war as reactionary from both sides and called for its immediate end.

The presence of Komala’s headquarters in these regions had effectively bound our fate to that of the people of Iraqi Kurdistan and the forces fighting against the Ba’ath regime. The damages suffered by our forces during this period were, in reality, part of the suffering and hardships that the people of Iraqi Kurdistan dealt with on a daily basis.

As soon as the news of the chemical bombing of Komala’s headquarters reached the city of Ranya, thousands of people from the city, despite fears of retaliation by the Iraqi Ba’ath regime, mobilized to help the wounded and injured Peshmerga of Komala and used every means available to assist the comrades harmed in this event. Many doctors and pharmacies in the city of Sulaymaniyah also, despite warnings from the Iraqi regime, fully cooperated in the treatment of Komala’s injured members. The inspiring solidarity of the people of Iraqi Kurdistan, especially the people of Ranya and the villages of the region, with Komala’s Peshmerga on that day is a memory that will never fade from minds.

The names of the comrades who lost their lives in the chemical bombing of Komala’s headquarters on May 15, 1988, are as follows:

Esmail Mostafazadeh, Ahmad Mohammadi, Bayazid Bayaz, Parviz Tajvanchi, Hossein Sigari, Saeed Mohammadi, Jalal Panjwini, Farshteh Rezaei, Abdullah Hoshyariyan, Ali Hassan Mohammadi (Tahmoures), Farangis Shahoui, Karim Janati, Karim Abdollahpour, Maryam Majnoun (Saadat), Kamal Rezanejad, Keyomars Mohajer (Jabbar), Manouchehr Mahmoudian (Morteza), Mohammad Rasouli Khoshsafat, Mohammad Omarali, Naseh Mardoukh, Nader Ghazizadeh (Azad), Vafa Tutunchi, and Hamed Modarresi.

The names of these beloved comrades will forever shine on the pages of the history of sacrifice and militancy of Iran’s communist movement. Today, the resting place of these steadfast women and men of Komala and the Communist Party of Iran, at the very place where they lost their lives, has become a site for the renewal of memory by their families and the renewal of commitment by their comrades to their noble and humane ideals.

Today, Friday, May 15, marks the anniversary of the chemical bombing of the central headquarters…

[86
16,87,24,10,8,11,88

post-2908","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-other","tag-bombardment","tag-boteh","tag-communist-party-of-iran","tag-cpi","tag-komala","tag-kurdistan","tag-memory
https://cpiran.net/english/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/1000116376.jpg",1920,1440,false
https://cpiran.net/english/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/1000116376-150x150.jpg",150,150,true
https://cpiran.net/english/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/1000116376-300x225.jpg",300,225,true
https://cpiran.net/english/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/1000116376-768x576.jpg",640,480,true
https://cpiran.net/english/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/1000116376-1024x768.jpg",640,480,true],"1536x1536":["https://cpiran.net/english/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/1000116376-1536x1152.jpg",1536,1152,true],"2048x2048":["https://cpiran.net/english/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/1000116376.jpg",1920,1440,false
https://cpiran.net/english/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/1000116376-80x80.jpg",80,80,true
https://cpiran.net/english/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/1000116376-300x225.jpg",300,225,true
https://cpiran.net/english/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/1000116376-1115x715.jpg",1115,715,true
https://cpiran.net/english/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/1000116376-800x500.jpg",800,500,true
https://cpiran.net/english/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/1000116376-1024x768.jpg",1024,768,true
https://cpiran.net/english/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/1000116376-540x340.jpg",540,340,true
https://cpiran.net/english/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/1000116376-400x250.jpg",400,250,true
admin
["GET
