More than two decades into the twenty-first century, and at a time when humanity has achieved remarkable progress in the fields of knowledge, awareness, and human rights, people have still not been able to effectively stand against this organized and inhumane act or prevent regimes that continue to carry out executions from persisting in it. The struggle against the death penalty today is not merely a humanitarian demand, but an echo of the demand for life, freedom, and human dignity.

According to existing statistics, at least 1,050 people have been executed in Iran during the first nine months of the current year, including one child and 29 women. Given the Islamic Republic’s record of secrecy and lack of transparency in publishing statistics, there is no doubt that the real figure is far higher. Around 450 of these executions took place after the 12-day war between Iran and Israel. Reports also indicate that the number of public executions carried out this year has increased compared to last year.

In response to the protest uprising of “Woman, Life, Freedom,” which for months spread through the streets and public spaces of most cities and, after more than three years, still continues in various forms, the ruling establishment has systematically and increasingly focused on issuing, confirming, and carrying out death sentences. This trend demonstrates the instrumental use of the death penalty as a tool of political repression and intimidation within society.

This comes at a time when, according to reports by independent international institutions and documented data, the situation of the Islamic Republic of Iran in 2025 has become more critical and complex in economic, political, social, and international dimensions compared to 2024.

The deepening class divide, the ongoing weakening of the middle class, the spread of uncontrolled poverty, the continuation of inflation above 40 percent, the systematic spread of corruption at all levels of governance, and the continuous devaluation of the national currency are among the structural crises that directly stem from the policies and actions of the Islamic Republic. Despite the imposition of a heavily securitized atmosphere, public protests continue daily in different sectors and fields. These protests are generally focused on the regime’s inability and incompetence in providing even the most basic livelihood and public services. The system’s inability to respond to these basic needs clearly indicates that the Islamic Republic is facing one of the deepest crises of legitimacy in its history. Under such conditions, repression remains the only tool left to maintain power, a tool that, due to recent developments including the 12-day war with Israel, has largely lost its previous effectiveness and has suffered serious blows.

The latest crime of the Islamic Republic included the execution of political prisoners Mohammadreza Moghadam, Moein Khonfari, Seyed Salem Mousavi, Ali Majdam, Habib Deris, Adnan Alboushoukeh in Khuzestan, and Saman Mohammadi Khiarah from Sanandaj at dawn on October 4, 2025.

While strongly condemning these crimes, we expect people not to remain indifferent toward these barbaric acts and to actively strive and struggle for the abolition of the death penalty. The Islamic Republic, which is suffering under unprecedented economic, social, political, and legitimacy crises both domestically and internationally, seeks to preserve its power by intensifying repression and continuing executions. Organizing coordinated, continuous, and multi-layered protests across different arenas and sectors must become a priority of popular activities. Otherwise, society will continue to witness daily imprisonment, torture, rape, and executions of people whose only “crime” is demanding the right to a better life.

According to reports by human rights sources, at least 70 political prisoners are at risk of having their death sentences confirmed and carried out. Among these individuals are Sharifeh Mohammadi, Warisheh Moradi, and Pakhshan Azizi. This situation has created serious concerns regarding the intensification of repression and the widespread violation of human rights in Iran. We are deeply concerned about these reports and expect the international community to react to these crimes and place urgent and practical measures to save the lives of these individuals on its agenda.

The struggle against the death penalty should not be regarded as the responsibility of only one group or section of society. This struggle must be considered a human and moral duty for all people. Remaining silent in the face of violations of the “right to life,” which governments and structures of power have turned into a tool for preserving domination and their own interests, means accepting this crime. The struggle for the abolition of the death penalty, before being a political position, is a moral and human responsibility.

We declare our deep and unconditional solidarity with the rightful struggles of workers, teachers, women, students, and all oppressed sections of society, and we firmly support the campaign “Tuesdays Against Executions,” which has now entered its eighty-ninth week. Within this framework, political and ideological prisoners in fifty-two prisons across the country protest the inhumane and anti-human-rights punishment of execution every Tuesday through hunger strikes. We believe that linking the anti-execution movement with the broader justice-seeking struggles of the people can deliver decisive blows to the regime’s repressive structure.

The Foreign Committee of the Communist Party of Iran firmly and unconditionally demands the immediate and complete abolition of the death penalty in all its forms in Iran. We call on all international institutions, human rights organizations, progressive parties, and democratic forces around the world to recognize the urgency of this crisis and exert pressure by every possible means for the immediate halt of all executions in Iran. We also call on all progressive and freedom-seeking forces inside and outside the country to make the abolition of the death penalty one of the central demands of their struggles. Undoubtedly, every step and every activity in this regard can become an effective link in the chain that will ultimately lead to the collapse of the reactionary and anti-people order of the Islamic Republic.

The struggle against the death penalty is a step on the path toward freedom, justice, and equality.

Abroad Committee of the Communist Party of Iran

October 7, 2025

The death penalty, as the harshest and most violent form of punishment, has always been…

[29
33,24,10,17,76,9

post-2978","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-the-abroad-committee-of-the-communist-party-of-iran","tag-abroad-committee-of-the-communist-party-of-iran","tag-communist-party-of-iran","tag-cpi","tag-death","tag-execution","tag-statement
https://cpiran.net/english/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/5787202264106733102.jpg",1080,810,false
https://cpiran.net/english/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/5787202264106733102-150x150.jpg",150,150,true
https://cpiran.net/english/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/5787202264106733102-300x225.jpg",300,225,true
https://cpiran.net/english/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/5787202264106733102-768x576.jpg",640,480,true
https://cpiran.net/english/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/5787202264106733102-1024x768.jpg",640,480,true],"1536x1536":["https://cpiran.net/english/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/5787202264106733102.jpg",1080,810,false],"2048x2048":["https://cpiran.net/english/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/5787202264106733102.jpg",1080,810,false
https://cpiran.net/english/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/5787202264106733102-80x80.jpg",80,80,true
https://cpiran.net/english/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/5787202264106733102-300x225.jpg",300,225,true
https://cpiran.net/english/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/5787202264106733102-1080x715.jpg",1080,715,true
https://cpiran.net/english/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/5787202264106733102-800x500.jpg",800,500,true
https://cpiran.net/english/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/5787202264106733102-1024x768.jpg",1024,768,true
https://cpiran.net/english/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/5787202264106733102-540x340.jpg",540,340,true
https://cpiran.net/english/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/5787202264106733102-400x250.jpg",400,250,true
admin
Statements (Abroad Committee of CPI)
["GET
