On September 2, 2026, the Communist Party of Iran commemorates the 43rd anniversary of its founding and enters its 44th year of existence and struggle. On this day, first and foremost, we honor the memory of all comrades who sacrificed their lives and livelihoods in the struggle for freedom, equality, the liberation of the working class, and an end to exploitation and oppression. We salute those who died under torture in the dungeons of the Islamic Republic; those who stood on the gallows and before the firing squads of the executioners; and the peshmerga who lost their lives in the trenches of the revolutionary resistance in Kurdistan, in the ranks of Komala and the Communist Party of Iran, fighting the regime’s repressive forces. They are living representatives of an ideal: the ideal of a free, equal, humane society free from exploitation. We salute their steadfast and proud families and honor the perseverance of political prisoners, labor activists, women’s activists, students, teachers, families seeking justice, and all those who stand against the machinery of repression.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today, however, this anniversary is being commemorated under circumstances in which the people of Iran are facing one of the most difficult and devastating periods in their contemporary history. The Islamic Republic is caught up in a dangerous war with the United States, Israel, and a number of governments in the region. This war, regardless of the names and narratives offered by the powers involved to justify it, first and foremost threatens the lives, security, livelihoods, and future of ordinary people. People who have had no role in making decisions about acts of war are now paying its price through insecurity, rising prices, unemployment, destruction of infrastructure, and ever-increasing deprivation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The blockade and disruption of port activities, the halt or near-zeroing of oil exports, the intensification of previous sanctions, difficulties in accessing foreign currency resources, disruption in the import of essential goods, and rising transportation costs have pushed Iran’s crisis-ridden economy into a new stage of collapse. A government that for decades has spent society’s public resources and wealth on the military apparatus, security institutions, ideological projects, structural corruption, and regional adventurism now seeks to place the entire burden of the crisis on workers, wage earners, retirees, the unemployed, female-headed households, and the urban and rural poor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Inflation is no longer merely a term used to describe rising prices; it is the name of the everyday reality of millions of people. People’s tables have become smaller, meat, dairy products, fruit, medicine, and many basic necessities have become inaccessible to a large part of society. Wages that were already insufficient to cover living expenses have now become even more worthless in the face of surging prices for food, housing rent, water, electricity, fuel, healthcare, and education. Millions of families, in order to pay rent, purchase medicine, or provide food for their children, have been forced to borrow money, sell essential household belongings, forgo medical treatment and education, and take on exhausting multiple jobs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In such circumstances, the government’s meager subsidies and hollow promises not only solve no problem, but are an outright insult to the dignity of people whose living costs multiply every day. A subsidy that does not even cover part of a family’s water and electricity bills or transportation costs cannot replace a fair wage, comprehensive social security, free healthcare, quality education, and adequate housing. The people’s issue is not charity or an allowance; it is their right to enjoy a dignified and humane life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Workers whose wages have gone unpaid for months, contract and temporary workers who face the risk of dismissal every day, teachers who live below the poverty line, nurses who preserve the health of society with meager wages and exhausting working hours, retirees whose life’s work has turned into poverty and anxiety, and young people who, after years of education, have no clear prospect for work and the future. All are victims of the prevailing economic and political order. Those living in marginalized areas who lack the most basic urban services, female heads of households abandoned in an unprotected and insecure labor market, and children facing malnutrition and dropping out of school reveal the true face of this crisis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Islamic Republic seeks to reduce the crisis to pressure from an \u201cexternal enemy,\u201d but the people rightly understand that sanctions, war, and external pressure have had a devastating impact on a foundation of corruption, repression, a rentier economy, plundering of public wealth, and structural incompetence. Responsibility for the current situation does not lie solely with foreign warmongering powers; direct and primary responsibility rests with a government that has held people’s lives and futures hostage to its own survival. A government that is incapable of providing water, electricity, medicine, jobs, and economic security, but always has the budget and resources to expand its apparatus of repression, prisons, censorship, and military forces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In response to the economic crisis and widespread discontent, the Islamic Republic’s answer is not acceptance of the right to protest or addressing people’s demands, but an intensification of the police and security atmosphere. The arrest of civil, labor, and student activists; fabrication of cases; issuance of harsh sentences; pressure on families seeking justice; media censorship; threats against independent organizations; and the use of executions to create fear are parts of the regime’s longstanding policy. The rulers know well that poverty, unemployment, and daily humiliation cannot be endured forever. Therefore, instead of addressing the roots of the crisis, they seek to silence the voice of protest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But repression is not a sign of real power; it is a sign of fear of a society that is no longer willing to sacrifice its life and dignity for the survival of a corrupt and repressive system. The experience of the revolutionary Jina movement, workers’ movements, the struggles of teachers and retirees, political and civil struggles underway in Kurdistan, women’s protests, and the resistance of young people has shown that Iranian society is full of living, conscious, and freedom-loving forces. These struggles, despite all the pressure, have shown that demands for freedom and equality cannot be eliminated by prisons and bullets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Communist Party of Iran believes that the path to the liberation of the people of Iran lies neither in a return to the dictatorships of the past, nor in the promises of right-wing and capitalist forces, nor in dependence on foreign powers, nor in compromise with the Islamic Republic. Real freedom will not remain sustainable without economic and social equality; and such a right, without political freedoms, the right to organize, the right to strike, the right to protest, freedom of expression, and the right of self-determination of oppressed nations, will never come close to becoming reality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We struggle for the establishment of a council government of workers and toilers and for the realization of freedom and socialism. For us, socialism is not an abstract slogan; it is a response to the real needs of a society whose wealth has been accumulated in the hands of a small minority and predatory institutions, while the majority of people are deprived of the most basic necessities of life. Socialism means placing natural resources, major industries, banks, land, and public wealth at the service of the common interests of society, rather than the profit and power of a minority.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Socialism means putting an end to an economy that treats human beings as instruments of profit. It means democratic and conscious planning of production and distribution according to the needs of society; not decision-making behind closed doors by capitalists, bureaucrats, and military institutions. It means providing housing, healthcare, education, unemployment insurance, and dignified pensions for everyone; it means full equality between women and men in law, work, family, and society; it means the complete separation of religion from the state and education; it means abolishing the death penalty, torture, and every form of repression of belief; it means recognizing the right of self-determination of oppressed nations and ending national, religious, and linguistic discrimination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Socialism means organizing work and production in such a way that technological development, instead of making people unemployed and poorer, serves to reduce working hours, expand leisure time, education, culture, health, and the flourishing of human capabilities. It means a society in which children are not victims of family poverty, the elderly live with dignity, patients are not deprived of treatment because of financial inability, and no one is forced to sell their labor under humiliating conditions simply to survive. Our horizon is a society in which \u201cthe free development of each is the condition for the free development of all.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The path to this horizon lies through conscious and united organization. The labor movement, the women’s movement, the struggles of teachers, nurses, retirees, students, young people, the people of Kurdistan, and other protest movements are the enormous forces of Iran’s future revolutionary transformation. Connecting these movements, solidarity among them, putting forward common demands, and creating independent and lasting organizations are vital necessities. The working class, because of its position in production and its ability to bring the machinery of profit and exploitation to a halt, has a decisive role in this process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Communist Party of Iran considers itself part of the effort to form a nationwide, internationalist, non-sectarian leadership based on scientific socialism adapted to the realities of the twenty-first century. A leadership capable of transforming scattered struggles into an organized force; defending the independence of social movements; presenting a clear solution for moving beyond the Islamic Republic; and preventing the outcome of people’s struggles and sacrifices from once again being appropriated for the benefit of reactionary, capitalist, and dependent forces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the 43rd anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of Iran, we once again pledge to all those who lost their lives in the struggle for freedom and socialism that we will continue the struggle for the liberation of humanity from exploitation, discrimination, poverty, and dictatorship. We believe in the power of organized people, class solidarity, conscious struggle, and a free and equal future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
